Knowledge base
Adding knowledge
Upload files or paste text to ground your agent's answers.
Where facts should live
Knowledge is where your agent's actual answers come from — policies, product details, pricing, FAQs, troubleshooting steps. The system prompt sets tone and behavior; Knowledge supplies the facts the agent retrieves and cites per question. See Retrieval & grounded answers for how the two connect.
Two ways to add a source
Open an agent's Knowledge tab:
- Upload — drag and drop or pick one or more files. See Supported files & limits for accepted types and size limits.
- Paste text — give it a title and paste content directly into a text box. Useful for a quick FAQ or a policy you haven't turned into a document yet.
There is currently no "paste a URL to scrape a page" option — if your content lives on a webpage, save it as a file (PDF, HTML export, or plain text) and upload it, or paste the text directly.
What happens after you add a source
Sources ingest asynchronously in the background. The Knowledge table shows live status (processing, indexed, or failed) and updates automatically every couple of seconds while anything is still processing. Once indexed, a source's content is split into chunks that become retrievable by the agent — see Managing sources for reindexing, tagging, and previewing those chunks.
KPIs at the top of the tab
The Knowledge tab header shows running totals for the agent: number of sources, indexed chunks, stored content size, and how many sources are currently processing — a quick way to see whether everything you've added has finished ingesting.
